Health Journey

In an unexpected twist and turn of fate, I have been diagnosed with a multitude of endocrine disorders which I have learned throughout the years, are all interconnected.  PCOS, endometriosis and hypothyroidism has not only had a tremendous impact on my life but I have also been able to help other women who are struggling with similar disorders and that has been incredibly rewarding for me.

When I was 27 years old I knew intuitively that I had hit a wall with my health. I had just finished recording my first EP for my music career and returned from Los Angeles to New York. What transpired over that year was I not only met the love of my life, Steven, but I also became bed ridden 3 months into our relationship for about a year.  Doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me.  I had debilitating fatigue, rapid weight gain, hair loss, fainting spells, horrible menstrual cycles that became almost unbearable and migraine headaches that lasted for days.

I knew I had to keep advocating for myself as I had been through cycles with doctors for other health reasons before and knew how dismissive the health care system was for women.  It took three years, and multiple doctors to finally discover my core issue: thyroid disease. Form that diagnoses sprung several more: PCOS, Endometriosis, and finally, Autonomic Dysfunction.

What is most heartbreaking is I knew I had suffered from this my entire life, and as we traced back the odd symptoms of my childhood, we realized it was there all along.  The many signs of these endocrine disorders and their awful consequences. Would I ever have my own children?  Could my body even handle that if I was blessed enough to become pregnant?  What did I ever do to deserve this?  My journey has been a long and heart breaking one, but I have learned so much along the way and am incredibly passionate about educating other women to prevent a ten year journey to disagnoses that so many women take due to their needs being dismissed by our health care system.
